Portuguese companies have demonstrated impressive strength and resilience, as evidenced by a recent study from Iberinform. In 2022, the 5,000 largest companies in Portugal reached a notable milestone, billing a total of 288.283 billion euros. This figure represents substantial growth and a clear sign of the business dynamism driving the national economy.
The study reveals that most of these companies are concentrated in Lisbon (33%) and Porto (18%), with Braga emerging as a significant hub of business activity, accounting for 9% of this impressive turnover. Aveiro also stands out with 8%, demonstrating the geographical diversification of business success in Portugal.
Besides the impact in terms of billing, these companies are a vital source of employment, creating 1,075,581 direct jobs. This number reflects a 5% increase from the previous year, underlining the crucial role of large companies in generating employment opportunities and economic development.
Growth was not limited to the domestic market. Iberinform's study points out that 67% of these companies are also active "players" in the international market, exporting a total of 70.694 billion euros. This aspect highlights the global nature of Portuguese business and its ability to compete in international markets.
This impressive 30% growth in billing in 2022, year-on-year, is a testament to the adaptability and innovation of Portuguese companies. In challenging times, these companies have not only managed to stay afloat but also thrive and expand, significantly contributing to the national economy.
